PE- Our PE days are Tuesday’s and Thursday's Please ensure that PE kits are in school on these days. It is a good idea to try and keep a PE kit in school all week. Children can keep these on their pegs in the cloakroom.
Reading – Each child will be given a take home reading book and a reading diary. When they have read with an adult at home, please can an adult write in their reading record with the date, book title and any comments about their reading. When reading with your child, please try to ask them questions about the book they have read, comprehension skills are very important. Your child’s book will be changed once a week. Children have their own photo on our class reading track. When they have read 15 times at home they receive a wrist band and they reach 25 on the reading track, they will receive a pencil as a prize. Once they have reached 50, they will receive a book mark and will be entered into a prize draw to win a kindle. Children are praised for reading at home by receiving a book in assembly at the end of the full term upon reaching 50 on the reading track.
Phonics- sessions take place daily and children are carefully grouped into the phase of phonics they are working at. These sessions concentrate on learning letters, sounds and the spelling and reading of high frequency words. Children will have the opportunity to read every week with an adult in school as part of a guided reading group.
Homework – Children will each have a homework book. Homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday. Homework will usually be based on a Literacy or Numeracy topic we have concentrated on that week. They will also have a handwriting folder to practice from their handwriting focus group. Children who have completed their homework every week, will be entered into a prize draw to win a prize. Children will also be given spellings and Bear words to learn at home. Please support your child, where possible, in completing their homework as it will support their learning at school.
