We have P.E on Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure your PE kit is at school and jewellery is removed.
We change our books regularly. Children can change their book in the classroom as often as they like. Our school Reading Challenge rewards children for reading at home. Please make sure reading journals are brought into school everyday. Rewards include book marks, wrist bands and pencils. Children that reach 50 on the reading track are also entered into the prize draw each term.
Our writing is usually linked to our topic work. This half-term we will be writing about the Caribbean. We will study fiction and non-fiction books, information pages and poetry. Later in the term we will begin learning about plants and the natural world.
Children continue to practise their phonics skills in Year 2. We have a daily 20 minute lesson which teaches children to read and spell key words.
In Year 2 children also have lessons in spelling, punctuation and grammar. From 2016 pupils are required to sit a national test in this area.
This half term we are learning about fractions and statistics. Children should be secure in writing numbers up to 100 and also spelling written number names. We are also learning our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. We need to know our number bonds to 20 instantly.
