Reading

Each child will be given a reading book and a reading diary; these are to be taken home and back to school every day. When children have read with an adult at home, please can an adult write in their reading record with the date, book title and any comments about their reading. When reading with your child, please try to ask them questions about the book they have read, as comprehension skills are very important. Your child’s book will be changed once a week. Please encourage your children to read a wide breadth of books; not only their reading book from school.

In Class 2, all of the children are excited to move along our reading track. Children move one space for every day they read at home with an adult. When they have read 15 times at home they receive a reading prize of their choice, and another when they reach 25. Once they have reached 50, they will receive a third prize along with a brand new book of their choice in the termly reading assemblies.

Guided Reading

In Year One, guided reading takes place daily which means that every child will get at least two opportunities to build on their inference and comprehension skills with an adult each week. During the other sessions, children will complete independent activities and read for pleasure.
