In English during the Autumn tern we are linking our English learning to our History topic of the Vikings. We are using the reading approach to study Viking poetry, newspapers and the brilliant books 'There's a Viking in by bed!' by Jeremy Strong and 'How to train your dragon' by Cressida Cowell. We are delving into the dangerous dragon caves and completing lots of fun activities and written pieces of work along the way.
During the Spring term we are studying the beautiful book 'The Rainbow Bear' by Michael Morpurgo and Non Fiction texts linked to Polar animals. We will be creating information texts about Polar animals, environments and the Northern lights. We are studying 'Shackleton's Journey' by William Grill based on the real life expedition of Ernest Shackleton to the South Pole! We are going on our own journeys and adventures along the way, learning about the past, the cold and the amazing explorations of the South Pole.
In the Summer term our learning is based around the brilliant Roald Dahl classic: 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory'. We are living and breathing chocolate and all things sweet in this wonderful world Mr Dahl created. We will be adding our own rotten children characters to the story and designing our very own room in his chocolate factory. After the half term we will then be going back in time to the Victorian period when we study 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. This amazing story allows us to imagine how Victorian children and people lived and the journey of the young boy Jim Jarvis.
