Maths

In Year 3, pupils will cover a variety of topics within Mathematics including: place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, money, length and perimeter, statistics, fractions, properties of shape, time and measurement. Children will be taught formal written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to calculate arithmetic questions.

Children will work on recalling a range of mathematical facts within arithmetic work including number bonds, doubles and halves, times tables (with related inverses) and counting on and back in 1s, 10s and 100s from any 3-digit number.

Our children will then work on solving problems using practical resources and recording their working out using the taught written methods. Small group work is used to encourage children to discuss different ways of solving a problem and consider other’s ideas. This also builds child’s confidence and competency within maths.
